The 'Student Center' is a corporate/educational project that sought to revitalize the center of the University of Miami. It is a space that holds events, meetings, retail, dining, office, conferences, lecturing, etc... and as such, it must provide an environment of conversation, study, interaction, nourishment, and relaxation.
The concept for the Student Center is taken directly from the school mascot: the Hurricane. The strong force that is notorious of a hurricane is broken down into its elements inspired by falling rain, strong winds, water, and earth to create a dramatic, expressive modernism that is a signature of Arquitectonica.
The project received LEED Silver status and has since been renamed the 'Shalala Student Center.'
